The Statewide Initiative wrapped up its inaugural year of programming for low-income students throughout Oregon, and growth is on the horizon. Next year, our program will double in size to reach even more students across the state.
Rural communities experience unique obstacles when it comes to college access, including technology and resource limitations. As a result, rural students are 10 percent less likely to enroll in college than their urban peers.
College Possible students like Ian, a junior at Gaston Junior/Senior High School are determined to defy those statistics.
“I’ve always been really interested in doing college prep, but I’ve never found anything that has guided me toward a certain goal,” Ian said. “I’ve been given great counseling advice from a counselor from College Possible and they’ve helped me through the entire process. It’s given me a lot of experience onto the overall process of applying to college and what my future will be.”
