College attended: Rockhurst University
Major: English and psychology
What are the highlights of your position?
Trying to teach over really talkative, friendly students; having reassuring conversations with concerned parents; spending hours upon hours brainstorming essays with students and helping them edit their work; smiling and high-fiving the students when they get their first acceptance letter.
What’s your favorite thing about serving with College Possible?
As a senior coach, sharing the joy of college acceptance – particularly if I know that student probably wouldn’t have applied to college had they not been in College Possible. More so than that, though, is being someone that the students look to for answers. The energy and curiosity they have inspire me to be a good coach.
What has been a favorite memory from your service with College Possible?
I have lots…One that always sticks out was our visit to University of Nebraska – Lincoln. I spent the majority of it bonding with three of my students while they imagined themselves in college life. I also got to know another coach’s student pretty well, talking to him about his aspirations in computer science. It was one occasion when I felt the broader community of College Possible outside of my cohort.
